Sri Lanka and the UK-based English Tea Shop will exhibit its range of sustainable, 100% organic teas at the TFWA Asia Pacific Exhibition and Conference next week in Singapore, as it focuses on the travel retail sector in the region.
At its stand, Basement 2 J23, English Tea Shop will introduce a new Gifting Collection, including two new ranges: Gin Botanical Infusions – created to give consumers an elevated gin drinking experience, and Cold Brews – created for summer and brewed quickly in cold water to be consumed at any time of the day. Exclusive English Tea Shop Travel Retail Assortment Packs complete the new portfolio.
English Tea Shop, a premium brand in the organic gourmet sector, sells teas which are grown by small-scale organic and Fairtrade farmers from all over the world and blended in the company’s factory in Sri Lanka. Launched in 2010, the company uses sustainable practices and puts employee and supplier livelihoods first.
The business works directly with more than 3,100 small scale farmers, 46% of its employees are women and the facilities are 100% carbon neutral (even taking into account boiling the kettle for a cup of tea).
In October 2021, English Tea Shop became 30% employee owned and the following year, the company achieved B Corp certification status at the first attempt (score: 117.8).
English Tea Shop founder and CEO, Suranga Herath said: “At English Tea Shop we have a passionate belief in doing things differently, putting people and purpose before profit.
“Our mantra, Love and Prosperity through Community or Prajãva (means Community in Sri Lankan), has acted as a guiding star and is at the heart of every business decision. English Tea Shop is a Sri Lankan tea story infused with British traditions. From rich and robust to delicate and fragrant, every cup of English Tea Shop tea celebrates our vibrant community, authenticity, provenance and unparalleled sustainability.
“Our presence in over 55 markets worldwide proves our belief that ethical, sustainable businesses can be successful and profitable. We strive to create the finest organic teas while having a net positive impact on the planet and enriching the lives of everyone involved from farm to cup. From planters to pickers, processors and packers to tea drinkers around the world – all these wonderful people make up our tea loving community.”
The Gifting Collection Favourites, Moments and Exclusive, are ideal for the travelling consumer, featuring classic blends to creative combinations and are designed and curated for “the most exquisite tea drinking and gifting experience”.
The new English Tea Shop Gin Botanicals is a selection of organic botanicals, packed with flavonoids and antioxidants which enhance therapeutic values. The brews are thirst quenchers and include two blends, Lemongrass, Citrus & Ginger and Super Berries.
The English Tea Shop Travel Retail Assortment Packs are presented in travel-friendly packs, this includes teas from the Moments and Exclusive pyramid collections, Gin Botanicals, a tasting glass and a customised travel-friendly triangular advent calendar with nine pyramid tea bags.
English Tea Shop teas are contained in colorful packaging. The outer packaging is compostable, the tea bags are staple-free and all pyramid tea bags are fully biodegradable.
The products are stocked in retailers around the world, including Selfridges of London, Isetan in Japan and Galeries Lafayette, Paris. English Tea Shop teas are currently available in travel retail at London Heathrow T2 & T4, London Luton and London Gatwick South, The Maldives Airport, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, Singapore Changi Airport T3, as well as on airlines including Scandinavian Airlines.
In 2022, English Tea Shop launched a blockchain-based transparency and traceability web app. Launched in collaboration with food-traceability expert & auditor, Connecting Food, this allows consumers to discover the farm to cup journey of their product, by scanning a QR code.
Herath added: “Asia Pacific is the most important regional focus for us in travel retail. Airports in the region are built for consumer experiences and shoppers now want to offset their emissions through responsible buying. English Tea Shop helps consumers do this and our social equality programme helps communities and farmers build better lives.”
